Working Out The Investigation Details
In writing the latest draft of the game I have come to realize that there is a hole that needs to be filled. Currently the details of how an investigation is handled has been largely left open but I realize it needs to be in the rules. In short, there needs to be a reliable methodology for a player to follow when conducting an investigation. Furthermore, such a method needs to be reflected in any adventure that is written for the game or this wont work.
In other words, if you tell a player that a good way to learn about the history of a location is by looking in the local newspaper archives, but never give any archival details in your adventure, then the idea doesn’t work.
As I wrote more on this subject it became clear that every game I’ve read up to now has just assumed you’d figure out how to conduct an investigation. I’m now trying to put together a draft that will cover all of the ways I think would be useful and fun for a player to handle their investigation.
